Bill Gates vs. Elon Musk

Bill Gates and Elon Musk are both massively wealthy innovators.  They have also become divisive figures to large swaths of the population.

Mr. Musk, of course, riled the left by heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which had as its goal to cut government spending and help our country be more fiscally responsible.

Mr. Gates is known for his charitable giving through his Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  While many conservatives take issue with some of the left-wing causes that Gates contributes to, most people would praise much of the giving that deals with feeding children in third world nations.  In May, he announced that he would donate almost all of his fortune, nearly $200 billion, by 2045.

Conflict arose after Gates announcement when he took a shot at Musk.  Gates accused Elon of “killing the world’s poorest children” with his proposed cuts in USAID programs.  While Mr. Gates is right that we should help the poor, there are some big problems with his criticism of Elon.

First, while Gates might have good intentions wanting to help people through USAID, it is a very unwise use of our money.  The United States Government does not have the money to spend.  It would be one thing if the government had a large budget surplus.  Unfortunately, the government is operating on an estimated budget deficit of $1.83 trillion!  It is not a good idea to spend money that you do not have.

Second, and more importantly, there is the issue of freedom.  One of the main differences between conservatives and leftists is what we do about disagreement.  Conservatives say, “I disagree, so I’ll do what I want and you do what you want as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone.”  Leftists say, “I disagree, so the government should force you to do what I say.”  In short, conservatives believe in freedom.  Leftists do not.

This criticism by Gates denies the American people of their freedom.  If we cut USAID, it does not deny the people the ability to help people through foreign aid.  Any person who wants to donate money to the causes that Gates supports can do it the same way he does, through private donations.  There are, in fact, many good reasons for a person to prefer individual charitable donations to going through the government.  If we have learned anything from DOGE, it is that government is wrought with waste and fraud, and highly inefficient.

There is a recent TikTok that went viral by a woman named Jen Hamilton, where she makes a similar argument.  She even tries to make the case that the Bible backs her position.  In the video, she is responding to a comment that said, “Whoa.  Be careful there.  I am happily MAGA and absolutely love Jesus.  We are exhausted from liberal nonsense.”  Hamilton opens her Bible and reads from Matthew 25:31-45, which culminates in Jesus explaining, “Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.”  As she reads the passage, she overlays on the screen headlines that say things like, “Millions of Low-Income Households Would Lose Food Aid Under Proposed House Republican SNAP Cuts,” “Trump’s new spending bill includes reducing federal funding for SNAP food program by nearly $300 billion,” and “Exploring the potential impact of Medicaid cuts in Trump’s big budget bill.”  Then she says, “I don’t know.  Sounds pretty liberal.”

This woman and Gates make the same mistake.  They equate care for the needy with government spending.  What she forgets is that the Bible also advocates for free will.  The Bible is very clear about this.  2 Corinthians 9:7 says, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”  When you push for government spending to fund your pet causes, you are using compulsion through taxes to pay for what you think is best.  Government spending does not even count towards what the Bible says to do, because it is not by choice.  You are basically saying, “I care about this cause, so you should be forced to pay for it.”  That is not caring.  It is controlling.

When it comes to the giving that the Bible actually calls for, conservatives dominate the left. Statistics show that while conservatives earn 6% less income, they give 30% more to charity.  The fact that Elon wants to save money for taxpayers is the opposite of greedy.  It actually helps people, and respects their freedom to choose where to give their charitable dollars.  Those charitable dollars are far more likely to be spent wisely when not being filtered through government bureaucracies.

Bill Gates has the right to give his fortune to whatever causes he chooses to.  Some of those causes are probably great.  Likewise, you should have the right to give to whatever causes you choose to.  Here lies the big difference.  While conservatives would love it if Bill Gates gave to causes of our choosing, we respect his free will.  Conservatives think that freedom must be protected, even if people choose to use their money differently than we want.  It is their money, not ours, and not the government’s.  Elon Musk respects this fact, and should be praised for his work at DOGE, not attacked.

California Classrooms:  From “Yes, Ma’am” to “F Off”

California is fighting back.  No.  Not against crime.  Not against sky-high gas prices.  Not against overregulation.  My home state is fighting back to keep obstinate, disruptive kids in classrooms with your kids.

In a Los Angeles Times article by Daniel Miller, he explains that President Trump signed an executive order on April 23 that directed the Education Department to “root out school discipline frameworks based on discriminatory equity ideology and issue new commonsense practices in the nation’s K-12 schools.”  In other words, President Trump does not think school discipline should be a matter of skin color.  The state of California worries that this will lead to legal challenges, because their school discipline policies were changed in 2019 based entirely on woke, racial ideologies.  They passed a law that year that banned suspending students who were “willfully defiant.”

Willful defiance is not an accident.  It is, by definition, a purposeful act.  Imagine a teacher who sees a kid with his cellphone out during class and tells him to put it away.  In the past, kids would say, “Yes, Ma’am,” and put it away, knowing they had been caught.  If they instead kept tapping at their phone and told the teacher to “F Off,” that would be willful defiance.  Until 2019, schools could respond to such bad behavior by suspending the kid from school.  After 2019, that student could not be suspended.

Why would California want to protect a willfully defiant student like that?  The answer should not surprise you.  California is woke, and based its decision on twisted, misused, and incomplete statistics on race and suspensions.  Miller writes that “President Obama had directed schools to avoid enacting discipline policies that disproportionately punished underrepresented student groups – a stance later supported by President Biden.”

The state of California is allowing willfully defiant students to disrupt your child from learning because they say that black students are more likely to be suspended for willful defiance than white students, once again falsely implying that racism is rampant in our country.  Here is the problem.  California bases its claim that black students are disproportionately punished on twisted statistics.  Miller’s article says that “Black students accounted for 17% of total suspensions in California – despite making up less than 6% of the student population.”  That does not mean that black students are disproportionately punished.  The article does not give you the relevant information to know that.  The implication is that since only 6% of the students are black and 17% of the suspensions are black, those students are overrepresented by 11%.  The problem is, the 6% number is entirely irrelevant, and the one statistic that is important is not even mentioned.  The statistic that you actually need to know is the percentage of willfully defiant students who are black.  That number is likely right around 17%.

To make it easy to understand, say there are 10,000 students in your school district.  If 6% of the students are black and 94% are white, that means 600 students are black and 9,400 are white.  Then, say that 100 of the students are willfully defiant; 17 blacks and 83 whites.  According to the logic of Obama, Biden, and California, if you do not suspend 94 whites and 6 blacks, that would be disproportionate and racist.  That would mean you have to let 11 of the willfully defiant black students get away with it, and worse, you would have to suspend 11 innocent white students.  While this solution makes perfect sense to Democrats, they realize it would be hard to explain to the public, and especially to the parents of those 11 innocent white students.  That led them to an alternative solution; to stop suspending any of the willfully defiant students.  Now, the 9,900 other students have to sit in class with willfully defiant brats disrupting them, both black and white.

As you can see, the relevant number in that scenario is not the percentage of the 10,000 students who are black.  It is the percentage of the 100 willfully defiant students who are black that is important.  The article does not tell us that number.

The divisive left does the same thing when talking about people in prison for murder.  They often claim that there is a disproportionate number of blacks in prison for murder than whites because more than 50% of the people in prison for murder are black, and only about 12% of the U.S. population is black.  The 12% statistic is, of course, irrelevant.  They fail to mention the one relevant fact, that more than 50% of murders are committed by blacks.  That means that the number of blacks in prison for murder is proportionate to the number of murders they commit.  Hopefully, their solution is not the same as it is with willfully defiant students; to stop putting any murderers in prison.

The list of reasons you should never let your child attend a public school is as long as Santa’s naughty and nice lists put together.  The fact that they have to deal with willfully defiant students in class can now be added.

The Sky is Falling!  Testing the Predictions of Doom by Democrats

Who remembers the story of Chicken Little?  In the children’s tale, something falls from a tree on Chicken Little, who panics and runs around telling his friends that “the sky is falling!”  Today, the phrase “Chicken Little” is used to describe someone who is a constant worrier or pessimist, or who spreads alarm or baseless reports of danger.

Lately, a lot of Chicken Littles are running around warning us that the sky is falling.  These Chicken Littles are also known as Democrats.  Just turn on your television, check your social media feed, or talk to your Democrat friends and you will hear horrifying predictions of doom.

Their predictions brought to mind a Bible study that my dad taught a long time ago.  He was trying to show how unlikely it is that all of the prophecies in the Bible come true unless it really is God’s word.  In the New Years Bible study, he got December issues of tabloids that had psychics making predictions about the coming year.  Some said that we would make contact with aliens.  Others tried to predict who would win the World Series or guess celebrity gossip and scandals.  Then at the end of the year he would go back and see how accurate those psychics were as compared to the Bible’s perfect record.  Those predictions were predictably inaccurate.

My dad’s old Bible study was memorable and fun, and it inspired me to similarly test the doomsday prophecies we keep hearing from the left.  This will not only be interesting to watch, but being able to look at information and correctly predict what will happen in the future is important.  If Democrats are consistently wrong, we should not listen to them, and certainly should never vote for them.

Some of their predictions are just policy issues on which they disagree with President Trump.  That is not our main focus.  We are talking about the dire warnings that they pushed throughout the campaign, and still seem to be sticking to.  My guess is that these predictions are about as likely as the psychic predictions from the tabloids in the 90s.  Here are some of the Democrat prophecies that we keep hearing.

President Trump will change or void the Constitution and stay in office after this term. – Shortly after the election, President Trump made a joke about running for a third term.  Some Democrats, who do not understand jokes, have floated the idea that President Trump will try to remain in office after this term, and even introduced a resolution to clarify that the 22nd Amendment does not allow him to do so.  The alien contact predictions are far more likely than Donald Trump remaining in office after inauguration day in 2029.

President Trump will enact a national abortion ban. – Kamala Harris has made this prediction, as have many other Democrats.  Hopefully, this prediction does come true, but President Trump has said he will not.

President Trump is a racist who will persecute minorities. – This prediction is more difficult to define.  Searching through articles and videos, many claim that President Trump will take away the non-white citizens’ rights, but they do not give any examples of what rights are supposedly going away.  The only actual policy that keeps popping up is that President Trump thinks ethnic minorities are smart enough that they are capable of competing for hiring and college admission with whites without DEI policies to handicap the whites.  That is true.  Republicans do think more highly of minorities than Democrats do.  Since this prediction is so vague, the way we will decide if it has come true is if, in four years, whites have any rights that non-white citizens do not have.

President Trump is an “existential threat to democracy.” – We have heard this one too many times to count.  Determining the accuracy of this prophecy is extremely simple.  The Democrats have already told us that they never really believed this and were just lying to scare people, because they are already talking about how to win the next election.  Obviously, if an election occurs in 2028, democracy will have survived.  Not only that, but President Trump would like to strengthen the democratic process and restore faith in our elections by passing a nationwide voter ID requirement.

President Trump is Hitler.  Also known as – Trump is a fascist/dictator/authoritarian who will rule with an iron fist. – This one seems like a strange prediction, considering President Trump has already been the president for a full term and did not act in an authoritarian way.  It is highly doubtful that he will now, all of a sudden, want to act like a dictator.  By definition, a dictator uses his power to dictate (control) what citizens do with their lives, using the force of government.  President Trump, on the other hand, has actually made it a focus to cut regulations and eliminate government intrusion in our lives.  In fact, President Trump is having Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy try to get rid of full government departments, cut the number of government employees, and eliminate regulations and expenses.  In all fairness, he was the president during the most authoritarian time in American history.  However, he was not the perpetrator.  It was state governors who forced lockdowns, mask mandates, and pushed experimental vaccine mandates.  In fact, the Democrat criticism of Trump was that he should have been more authoritarian and taken away more liberties.  My guess is that President Trump will be far less dictatorial and authoritarian than the Democrats are.  If Democrats mean it when they say they fear authoritarian rule, they will help President Trump make government less influential in our lives.  They should vote for things like school choice, tax cuts, and eliminating government departments, employees, spending, and regulations.  My prediction is that their authoritarian tendencies will shine through and they will not.  We will see whose prediction is more accurate.

President Trump will use the military to attack political opponents and media members, or the “enemy from within.” – The Left made this prediction by twisting and combining two different statements by President Trump, so it seems unlikely to come true.  He has said that some terrible people are hurting our country more than foreign enemies.  He has called them “the enemy from within.”  He has mentioned fascists, Marxists, communists, Adam Schiff, Nancy Pelosi, and members of the media as being in that group.  He also spoke about possible unrest in the streets on election day by groups he called “radical left lunatics” (Presumably meaning groups like Antifa).  He said that the National Guard or the military should easily handle that.  Many on the left have turned that into a prediction that President Trump will unleash the military on the sets of “60 Minutes” and “The View,” or to throw Adam Schiff into prison at Guantanamo Bay.  As entertaining as all that would be, this is likely another prediction that will not happen.

President Trump will have the military bash down shop doors and drag away immigrants. – Joy Reid made this “prophecy” on November 26th, and several others have made similar predictions.  President Trump has said that he will crack down on illegal immigration and finish the wall.  He has also said that his first focus is on deporting criminals who are illegally in our country.  How likely are the predictions of military sweeps of city streets and storefronts to round up law-abiding immigrants to come true?  We shall see!

President Trump will cut Social Security. – A large billboard in Arizona made this claim, which the Harris campaign and the media echoed.  Contrarily, President Trump said that he would propose “no tax on social security.”

President Trump will weaponize the justice system and prosecute political opponents. – This prediction could go a couple of different ways.  We can again look back and see that he did not do this in his first term as president and assume that he will refrain from doing it again.  Yes, there were the “Lock her up” chants, but he obviously did not.  Hillary Clinton was ignored after 2016 and is still free.  This was, of course, before the Democrats actually did politically weaponize the justice system against their political opponents, and especially targeted President Trump himself.  President Trump has good reason to return the favor, and he very well may.  The other way he could react is to reform or dismantle the government mechanisms and agencies that were corruptly used to go after him and other Republicans.  He could gut the Justice Department and the FBI to try to prevent them from being used for political persecution again.  Only time will tell.

This is a solid group of predictions to test whether the left has any idea what they are talking about, or if they are just making up stuff to scare people.  I suppose there really is the possibility that they actually believe what they are saying, like Chicken Little did.  Either way, we will revisit these predictions in four years to see how accurate they were.  Hopefully, the sky is not falling.

Win With Class

“Turn it to MSNBC,” I said.  President Trump had pulled out to an insurmountable lead, and what better way to celebrate than to watch Rachel Maddow and her ilk come even more unhinged than they already were?  After seeing them saying awful things about good people for years, it is natural to want to see them lose it, and they did not disappoint, nor did Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, or the ladies of The View.  They turned on each other, blaming people like Joe Biden and Barack Obama for Kamala Harris’s loss.  They made full frontal, nasty, slanderous attacks on the American people.  We were called bigots and misogynists and accused of wanting an authoritarian dictator in charge.  There were tears.  Lots of tears.  It was a complete meltdown.  Online, there was more insanity.  It was hilarious and enjoyable.

On the other side, the people who had supported President Trump were elated.  There was well-earned jubilation and happiness.  There was also a lot of gloating.  It made me think.  In my email, there was a reminder from a family member about what is truly important in this moment.  Part of it read, “It is imperative that followers of Christ be ever-mindful that we are to be salt and light in this troubled time in our nation.  We have a connection to our Heavenly Father that the world needs.”  While the temptation to gloat is understandable, we as conservatives need to restrain ourselves.  Our ultimate goal is to point people towards Jesus.  If we rub in our victory too much, it will turn off some people who might be open to Christianity and drive them away.  We need to be good winners.  To use a sports analogy, it is like watching the opposing team win the World Series and celebrate on your home field.  It is a terrible feeling, and only makes you want to beat them more the next year.  When it comes to God (or politics), we do not want them to hold a grudge like that.   We want them to join us.

This is also important for other practical reasons.  Our nation is still very divided.  We need to win people over permanently, or we will lose elections in the future.  The best way to change our government is to persuade people.  If people whose candidate lost see us rubbing salt in their wounds, they are unlikely to even entertain our ideas.

This does not mean we should not be joyful and excited.  We definitely should be.  This is a great triumph for our country.  It does not even mean that you cannot gloat to anybody, but you need to know which of your friends have a sense of humor and can take some playful ribbing.  It just means that we should try our best not to permanently close off others to our ideas, and especially to God.

While President Trump’s victory is a win for all law-abiding citizens in this country, almost half of the electorate does not see it that way.  They have bought into the media attacks on President Trump and half of America.  They are scared.  They have been told the lie that President Trump will be a fascist strongman who will rule with an iron fist.  Is this true?  Of course not.  We know it, but many of the people who were getting their news from ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post, or any other far-left propaganda outlet believe it.  If you believed our country was being taken over by an authoritarian dictator, you would be pretty upset about it, too.

Fortunately, these negative expectations should actually make it easier for us to win people over.  Our side is so far from authoritarianism that it should quickly become obvious.  President Trump would be the first authoritarian dictator ever whose policies were designed to force you to have more freedom, keep us out of wars, and take less of our money.  In just about every area of life, President Trump’s policies are less intrusive than those of Democrats.  The Democrats claim that President Trump would be the dictator, while they are the party that mandates a million things that we cannot afford and do not need or want.  They forced people to close their businesses.  They mandated that we lock ourselves in our homes.  They closed down our churches.  They mandated we cover our faces and get experimental shots.  They are mandating electric cars that most people cannot afford.  They threaten you with fines if your health insurance is not acceptable to them.  They push mandatory gun buyback programs.  They force your daughters to play sports against biological boys.  They want to confiscate more of your hard-earned money.  The side claiming that President Trump will be an authoritarian is the same side that wants to control just about every aspect of your life.

There are, of course, people who have dug in so deep that nothing will convince them.  For those who are less radical and still have common sense, encourage them to turn off the network news and keep an open mind to some of what President Trump is likely to accomplish.  Do not let the mainstream media spin good news into bad.  If they are expecting authoritarianism, their fears will quickly be assuaged.

If we show people positive results without being obnoxious, they will start to see the light.  If they see that those positive results and our kindness are driven by our faith in God, then we can be salt and light to those who are angry, frightened, overwhelmed or disheartened, no matter their views or what side they are on. This should be our ultimate goal.

But, the Lies!

When President Trump was shot in Pennsylvania, the person next to me had a shocking reaction.  She said, “Good.”  When pushed about why she gave that disgusting response, she said, “You can’t change my mind.  I will never support that man.  Everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie.  I can’t stand liars.”

The irony is, I think that reason is a lie.  If lying disqualified a candidate, there is zero chance that she could vote for Kamala Harris.  I just spent most of October in a swing state, Arizona, where I saw ads on television and billboards, and heard radio advertisements for both candidates.  I can confirm that Kamala Harris is running the most dishonest major presidential campaign of our lifetimes.  It is inconsistent and hypocritical to claim that you support Kamala Harris because President Trump has told lies.

Honesty should matter in a political candidate.  Ideally, a candidate would say what policies they support and follow through once elected.  In that respect, President Trump has actually been the most honest politician in recent memory.  He either followed through, or attempted to and was blocked, on everything from tax cuts and lowering the regulatory burden, to Supreme Court appointments, to moving the United States Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, to working to secure our border.  Sure, he has lied about some silly things, like crowd sizes.  He exaggerates often, but when it comes to substantive policy, he is more open and honest than most politicians.

Likewise, his commercials and other advertisements playing in Arizona did not lie about his opponent, Kamala Harris’s policy positions.  He doesn’t need to!  Her positions are so crazy and radical that the truth is the best weapon to use against her.  He ran ads of her saying that she wants to ban fracking.  There were ads with her saying that she wants taxpayers to pay for prison inmates to get transgender treatments and that she supports men playing in women’s sports.  One ad highlights the massive increase in illegal border crossings under Harris’s watch.  Another ad showed her saying that she cannot think of anything she would do differently than Joe Biden.  Her own record is enough ammunition to beat her without needing to make stuff up.

Then, there are the Harris ads.  She cannot run ads touting her record, because it is embarrassing.  She cannot honestly attack President Trump’s record in office, because it was mostly successful.  Her only chance is to lie, and her handlers realize it.

The laundry list of lies was very long.  There were lies about her record and her agenda that were not in the ads.  This includes claiming that the border is secure, when her current administration gave us the biggest influx of illegal border crossings ever.  It includes taking both sides on multiple issues like support for the Green New Deal, cutting police funding, eliminating private health insurance, and mandating electric vehicles whether people can afford it or not.  There was also the lie to the American people that Joe Biden was competent and fit for office, when everyone could see clearly that he was not.

Then, there were the attack ads about President Trump.  There was a big billboard that I passed multiple times near Phoenix that claimed President Trump plans to cut social security.  I was fortunate to be able to attend a Trump rally in Tempe, and I heard with my own ears his actual plan.  He plans to eliminate taxes on social security income.  That sounds far from a cut to me.

There was also a commercial that claimed President Trump wants to pass a national abortion ban.  Unfortunately, that is an outright lie.  President Trump has said consistently that he does not support a federal ban and is happy with abortion policy being decided on a state-by-state basis.  Another ad lied that President Trump is proposing a four thousand dollar a year sales tax on families.  He is not.  Harris also had an ad running with a whole bunch of lies about President Trump’s agenda.  It claimed that President Trump wants to monitor women’s pregnancies and that he wants to defund K-12 schools.  These lies fall under the umbrella of a greater lie that Harris has been pushing throughout the campaign.  You have probably heard her talk about President Trump’s “Project 2025 agenda.”  She knows that Project 2025 is not connected to President Trump at all, but she does not care what is true.  His actual plan is called “Agenda 47,” and can be seen on his campaign website.

These are just the newer untruths.  She still mentions the Charlottesville lie, which has been debunked many times, even by left-wing sources.

One of my favorite whoppers is not even about President Trump, but about American businesses.  She says that the inflation caused by her current administration’s policies was actually caused by “price-gouging.”  The businesses that she claims are price-gouging are making razor thin profit margins.  Restaurants are especially hurt by the inflationary policies of the left and the over regulation by the government.  They cannot survive without raising their prices to cover the increased cost of doing business.  Her saying that these businesses are price-gouging is slanderous.

We could keep going for pages, but by now you should get the picture.  Kamala Harris is far more dishonest than President Trump.  If you claim that you are not voting for President Trump because he is a liar, then you should write somebody in.  Kamala Harris is not an option for anybody who cares about truth.

Make America Great Again:  What Does it Mean?

I was recently asked a question that I had never really given much thought to.  I had mentioned to a friend that the reactions to my “Make America Great Again” hat have been extremely positive this year.  Whenever I go out with the hat on, there are five to ten “I like your hat” comments from people.  My friend then asked me, “What do you mean by Make America Great Again?  When do you want to go back to that was so great?”  I immediately knew where he was going.  You see, my friend is black.  America does not have the best record when it comes to how black people have been treated in the past.  Until the 1860’s, Democrats thought black people were inferior, so they enslaved them.  Until the 1960’s, Democrats thought black people were inferior, so they segregated them.  Now, Democrats think black people are inferior, so they push lower standards for them through affirmative action and DEI.

As you can see, you have to look at what people actually mean by the slogan to really understand it.  Obviously, it does not mean that we want to go back to slavery or segregation.  When my friend asked me, I answered that it is not about that at all, but when I tried to explain what it is about, I had trouble putting it into words.  Since then, I have been thinking about what we mean by “Make America Great Again.”  When you look at it from the right perspective, it really is simpler than it seems.

First, you have to realize that the slogan “Make America Great Again” implies that things have gone wrong in our country.  If you can agree to that fact, the rest of the explanation falls easily into place.  My friend who asked the question would be the first to say that our country has gone off the rails.  When we say, “Make America Great Again,” we do not mean that we want to bring back failures from the past.  We fixed slavery.  We fixed segregation.  Those bad things should be left in the past.  The things we want to bring back are the good things that have gone awry.

Most of us can acknowledge that our country has some major issues.  By looking at those problems, we can fill in the blanks of what needs to be made great again.  Here are some of the obvious ones:

  • We used to be able to afford to buy a meal for the family at a local drive-thru restaurant.  Now, inflation has made food (and almost everything else) exorbitantly expensive.  Making America Great Again means making our money worth more and our lives affordable again.
  • People used to strive for the American Dream.  They wanted to start a successful business and make enough money to buy a house and provide for their family.  Now, government regulations and excessive taxes have made it nearly impossible to run a successful business.  Making America Great Again means bringing back the opportunity to reach the American Dream.
  • We used to fight crime, support our police, and prosecute criminals so that we could live in relative safety.  Now, we make major crimes into misdemeanors, we unfairly slander and try to defund our police, and we let criminals get away with murder, sometimes literally.  We even make it easy for criminals and terrorists from other countries to enter our country illegally.  Making America Great Again means taking criminals off our streets and securing our borders so we can be safe again.
  • We used to have both major parties agree when it came to supporting our greatest ally, Israel.  In fact, Harry Truman, a Democrat, was the president who pushed for the creation of modern Israel.  Now, we have people in our streets shouting “Death to Israel and death to America!”  We have Democrats walking out of speeches by the Israeli Prime Minister and trying to block military aid to Israel.  Making America Great Again means standing with Israel.
  • We used to have something called comedy.  Movies and television shows were made with jokes that were funny.  You could make jokes about being gay, race, disabled people, and more.  Now, people are overly sensitive and are told to feel offended about everything.  We hear things like, “That movie hasn’t aged well.”  (If you hear that, it is probably a funny movie that you should watch.)  Comedians are criticized and sometimes blackballed for making jokes.  Making America Great Again means being less sensitive, defending comedians, and making America funny again.
  • In the past, most people on both sides loved God and wanted to please Him.  Now, Christians are slandered as bigots for holding mainstream Christian beliefs.  Making America Great Again means praying and advocating for a religious revival and a turning back to God by our nation.
  • We used to have sports for both men and women to compete.  Now, men can say they identify as a woman and compete in women’s sports.  Making America Great Again means recognizing that men are different than women and should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports.

This is in no way a complete list, but it is a taste of what we mean by “Make America Great Again.”  It does not mean that America was ever a perfect place, but it does mean that many things have declined and should be repaired.  To make an analogy, say that ten years ago your house had a leaky roof, and you got it repaired.  Now, your plumbing has a broken pipe and the house has flooded.  If you said, “I want to make my house great again,” would that mean you want to go back to when you had a leaky roof?  Of course not.  It means you want to fix the broken pipe that is causing problems now.   Just like that, “Make America Great Again” does not mean that we want to bring back problems from the past.  It means we want to repair the problems that we have now.  Now, let’s get to work and “Make America Great Again!”

Five Quick Thoughts About the Assassination Attempt on President Trump

  1. When I first heard that President Trump had been shot, a person I know reacted by saying, “Good.” I would like to say that this surprises me, but unfortunately, the left has spent such so much time vilifying the man, it was half expected. Democrats and the media have spent the last 8 years comparing him to Hitler, baselessly calling him a dictator. By the way, a dictator is somebody who has absolute power and exercises control over the lives of his people. This is a ridiculous claim to make about a President who had deregulation and lessening the government interference in our lives as a cornerstone of his 4 years in office.
  2. Another person told me that they were surprised it wasn’t a Trump supporter who made an attempt to kill President Biden, because Trump supporters are “a little wacko.” While I am sure that out of the many Trump supporters there are plenty of bad apples, most of his fans that I have met are very kind and loving people. The scary thing about this comment was that it came from a conservative. Unfortunately, this person is older, and still watches the mainstream media and late night talk shows. President Trump, and his supporters, are painted as wackos by the network news and the late night talk shows. You cannot trust the sources that informed the public 50 years ago. Those sources can only be seen as opposition research. Also, if you have any negative thoughts about Trump supporters, I encourage you to go to a Trump rally and talk to the people there. They are the people who you would hope to live next door to.
  3. The failures of the secret service need to be investigated. How was somebody able to get on a rooftop so close to the stage? How was he allowed to get off a shot after spectators pointed him out?
  4. Things like this are likely to happen when one side of our political spectrum is actively protesting and ridiculing the Ten Commandments. Our country needs to turn back to God. There is no other way to turn the tide.
  5. President Trump is a real man. This is a guy who got shot, stood up with blood on his face, and raised his fist in defiance telling Americans to “fight!” Who would be a better guy to face down our enemies abroad than him?

A Wartime Consigliere

“I think it’s sad that these are our choices.  It seems like we can do better than Biden or Trump.”  This sentiment was recently overheard at a barbeque I attended, and it is not the first time it has been proclaimed as we lead up to next year’s presidential election.

With an incumbent president who has given us massive inflation, rampant crime, porous borders, unparalleled corruption, and shown weakness to our enemies worldwide, it seems obvious that he should be replaced in 2024.  The part that is not obvious is who should replace him.  Under normal circumstances, there would be a clear candidate.  We have a former president running with an impressive record on almost all of the important issues.  He was feared by our enemies, leading to unprecedented peace treaties in the middle east, and putting China, North Korea, and Russia in a holding pattern until America became weaker.  He was a great friend to Israel.  He fought to protect our borders.  He lowered the government’s interference in our lives, leading to a booming economy.  He appointed three Supreme Court Justices who make rulings based on the Constitution instead of the political whims of the day.  That person, of course, is Donald Trump.

With all of that in mind, it seems as though the case should be closed.  President Trump should be the easy pick.  Unfortunately, there are obstacles that come with President Trump.  He has an unpolished image and often says things that turn off large swaths of the population, including many conservatives.  He has been attacked by the media and entertainment industry obsessively for 7 years, and some of it has poisoned the opinions of many people who agree with almost all of his policy decisions.

The supporters of President Trump try to use logic to point to all of the great accomplishments that he had in office.  Then, they are frustrated that logic does not make much of an impact.  Those on the left simply hate his guts.  They will never change their minds, but they will feel the same way about Ron DeSantis or any other conservative candidate, so their opinion should be irrelevant.

The problem is the many otherwise conservative people who cannot stomach his antics.  Their concerns are not imaginary.  His unpolished persona and sometimes outlandish rhetoric contribute to his unlikability in some circles.   These are the ones who prefer candidates like former Vice President Mike Pence.  Many Trump supporters are incensed by Pence and call him a RINO (Republican in Name Only).  He is not.  Mike Pence holds conservative positions and is a very nice Christian man.  This is what those conservatives long for.  They want a candidate who is nice.  The problem is, nice only works with a nice opposition party and an honest media.  The United States today has neither of those things.

Our opposition party, the Democrats, is relentless in its dishonest attacks.  Our media is their propaganda wing, and will stop at nothing to destroy anybody with an R after their name, or who espouses traditional Judeo-Christian values.  They vilified President George W. Bush as a far-right monster, and he was a moderate, and a nice man.  They even crucified candidates John McCain and Mitt Romney as extremists, and they are not even close to conservative.  The media will cover for Democrats who do unethical things.  Then they will dig and dig and dig to find the smallest piece of dirt, real or imagined, on Republicans, and never let it go.  They are at war with us and they fight to win.

A nice candidate has not, and will not work in this climate.  I recently rewatched one of the greatest films of all time, The Godfather, and there is a scene that seems relevant to the situation we are in now.  After things have gotten out of hand and the five families are at war, Michael Corleone returns from hiding in Italy and becomes the leader of the family.  He gathers together all of his top men and lays out his plan for the future of the Corleone family.  During the meeting, he does something that always seemed a little unfair to me.  He tells the consigliere (the top advisor in the family), Tom Hagen, played by Robert Duvall, that he is no longer the consigliere.  Tom Hagen was Vito Corleone’s adopted son, a savvy lawyer, extremely smart, and very loyal.  Tom protests.  Then Michael says, “You’re not a wartime consigliere, Tom.”  I did not understand it until recently.  I thought Tom was cunning and completely trustworthy, so why would you want to demote him?  Then I realized what Michael meant.  Tom is a pretty strait-laced guy, who likes to work within the system and avoid getting dirty.  As the narcotics trafficking Virgil Sollozzo says earlier in the film, “I know you’re not in the muscle end of the family, Tom.”  As much as you can be in a movie about mobsters, Tom Hagen is the nice guy.  This is what my conservative friends who wish we can do better than President Trump remind me of.

This is not an endorsement of President Trump.  I have still not decided who I am going to support.  It is, however, a defense of his tenacity and combativeness.  He calls out the left for their lunacy and he calls out the media for their hypocrisy and bias.  At this moment in time, those qualities are a necessity.  Maybe DeSantis, Larry Elder or some other candidate has that fight.  Hopefully, they do.  We need a lot of fighters.  The people who are hoping for a better candidate are looking for an unrealistic candidate.  They want someone with the looks of Brad Pitt, the kindness of Mr. Rogers, and the magical ability to unite people who hold biblical values with people who think that men can get pregnant.  That person does not exist.

If we try to play nice against people who are playing dirty and playing for keeps, we will continue to get used as a punching bag, and we will lose.  In the past, both sides shared Judeo-Christian values and wanted America to prosper and lead.  Now, the Democrat party stands for the destruction of Judeo-Christian values and no longer wants a prosperous, powerful United States.  This is not the time for compromise.  We need to utterly defeat the left and we need a leader who will push on without regard for what the left thinks.  For those of you who want a nice president, instead, let’s make them an offer they can’t refuse. *

*My proofreader suggested I change the last line because the left might accuse me of making a threat and use it to attack me.  While I think it is naïve to think that the left needs a reason more than that I disagree with them to attack me and try to silence me, I will clarify.  That line is not a threat or a call for any horse head shenanigans.  It is just a tie-in to The Godfather, and it means that we should support a candidate who will be uncompromising on any issue of importance.

Elvis: Pushing the Envelope

The new Elvis Presley biopic made me think.  Early in the movie, Colonel Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks, says that the acts that made the most money were ones “that gave the audience feelings they weren’t sure they should enjoy, but they do.”  Then the film focuses on the controversial gyrations that drove the girls crazy and made many people upset and uncomfortable as “The King” began his rise to stardom.  Now we laugh because those dance moves that seemed so edgy in the 1950s seem so tame by today’s standards.  This is not a new phenomenon.

Every generation, you hear the older people complaining that the younger generation is worse than theirs was.  “Kids today,” they often grumble.  The popular culture explains this by saying that old people are stuck in their ways and overly critical of the younger generation.  The media may say that the younger generations are not really that rebellious or bad, because the older generation was also seen as rebellious and bad by the generation before them.  Have you ever considered that maybe, instead of each generation being old, stodgy, and self-absorbed, that actually they are right?  Each generation really is worse than the last, because they have to one-up the previous generation by pushing the envelope further than their parents.  Yes, no generation is perfect and they all have a rebellious streak, but that does not mean that younger generations are morally equivalent to older ones.  Just because Elvis shaking his hips on stage was rebellious and controversial in the 50s, that does not mean that it is morally equivalent to Cardi B singing “Wet Ass Pussy” today.  Can we please bring back the innocence of generations past?

The worrisome part about this is that the envelope has already been pushed so far that it is hard to imagine what somebody can do next that will actually shock anybody.  The Beatles’ long hair is certainly not controversial anymore.  Drug references in lyrics that shocked people in the 60s and 70s are old news.  Maybe it would take it to a higher level if someone bit the head off of a bat onstage?  Nope.  Ozzy Osbourne already did that in 1982.  Remember when Justin Timberlake exposed Janet Jackson’s breast in front of over 100 million viewers on live television at Super Bowl XXXVIII?  That was way back in 2004.  I fear that celebrities will become so desperate for attention in the coming years that we will see some disgusting acts being done to gain notoriety.

Will we soon see live sex acts on stage?  Will our entertainment revert back to feeding Christians to lions in front of cheering audiences?  Are we going to see The Hunger Games play out in real life?  We seem to be heading in that direction.  The good news is that there is now another way to cause controversy and gain attention.  Simply do and say good things that were once considered normal and mainstream.  As the Bible says, when people rebel from God, they begin to call evil good, and good evil.  It is definitely happening.  Think about the things that actually are considered shocking and controversial today:

  • In June, five Tampa Bay Rays pitchers were attacked by the mainstream press and “woke” social media pundits for opting not to wear rainbow “Pride Night” logos on their uniforms.  You do not even have to go back to my parents’ generation for when this stance would have been applauded.  Now it is counter-culture.
  • Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling started a firestorm of controversy when she criticized the use of the term “people who menstruate” instead of women.  She also committed the unforgivable sin of tweeting her support for a woman who had been fired for saying that “men cannot change into women.”  I am pretty sure that Elvis could have said that without causing a stir.
  • Actor Chris Pratt (Jurassic World, The Terminal List) has been disparaged as “the worst Chris in Hollywood” for his public professions of Christian faith.  What a Hollywood bad boy, huh?  Personally, I think being a Christian is the best way to be a rebel because it also gets you into Heaven.
  • If you really want to be an outcast, choose not to get what is called a Covid-19 vaccine, even though it does not prevent you from getting or spreading Covid-19.  This is the most discriminated against group in America for the past couple of years (with one possible exception).  They have been banned from many places, and some have even lost their jobs.  They are controversial not for anything they did, but instead for not subjugating themselves to their overlords.
  • When it comes to controversial athletes, former baseball star Curt Schilling is near the top of the list.  He was fired from ESPN in 2015 for tweeting “A man is a man regardless of what they name themselves.  Male bathrooms were created with the penis in mind; female bathrooms were not.  Is it now necessary to have laws to teach us otherwise?  Pathetic.”  To any previous generation, that comment would not only be acceptable, but obvious.  Now it is a fireable offense and has even been used to keep Schilling out of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
  • Actress Gina Carano was famously fired from Disney’s, The Mandalorian, for taking the provocative position that she should not have to ask to be called “she,” since she is obviously a woman.  Apparently, calling a boy “he,” or a girl “she,” is now edgy.  Charlie Sheen had to work a lot harder than that to get fired from a hit show.
  • The one possible exception mentioned above as the most discriminated group in America are supporters of President Trump.  The backlash that Elvis got for dancing is nothing compared to what you can expect if you say you agree with President Trump.  If you support his policies that brought us a booming economy, less government interference in our lives, and four years of peace (including unprecedented peace agreements in the Middle East), you can expect to be attacked more viciously than an opposing sports star in Philadelphia.

It is terrible that these things are now controversial, but there is one positive thing about it.  Entertainers want attention.  In the past, they had to come up with more and more outlandish and crazy gimmicks than we had previously seen to get that attention.  Now, all they have to do is espouse solid, traditional values, and wait for the media firestorm.

Again, this is not new.  When reading the Bible straight through, the Old Testament prophets were the hardest parts to get through because they were so repetitive that it got boring.  They were all the same thing.  Israel would turn from God and pull further and further away from Him.  He would warn them through prophets, and most of the time they would ignore the warnings and push His patience even more.  Eventually, God said that enough was enough and allowed Israel to be defeated and the people to be scattered into exile.  We are in that same spiral of self-destruction that the Israelites were in.  Each generation seems to push their rebellion a little further than the last.  We have had our modern-day prophets warning us to turn back to our morals and values of the past.  Dennis Prager, Rush Limbaugh, William F. Buckley, and others have warned us about the decay of our values and societal norms of earlier generations.  If America does not heed these warnings and keeps pushing the boundaries, we will soon run out of room to push and we will end up as Israel did.

There is one last thing I should do before I close out.  To all the old people out there, I apologize for my generation.  You were right.

The Underrepresented in the Covid Story

Those on the left constantly opine that white males are overrepresented in Hollywood, in business, or in any other venture they can think of.  They say that we should correct that by discriminating against white males in favor of people of color and women.  Apparently, Democrats think people of color and women need help because those persons are not smart enough, talented enough, or hard-working enough to succeed based on merit.  Those leftists think that media attention should show a more representative sample of how America is, based entirely on percentages.  However, there is a segment of society that is far more underrepresented than any group the left complains about.

I realized this injustice while I was getting my hair cut.  One of our local network news broadcasts was on the television and the anchors were feigning sympathy while gloating that a Republican who had spoken out against tyrannical mandates had died of “complications from Covid.”  My first thought was that “complications from Covid” generally means that the person died of something else while testing positive for Covid.  My next thought was that the only reason the media is trumpeting this story is that it fits their agenda of scaring people about Covid.  If they honestly cared about giving fair representation based on the actual numbers, for every story about somebody dying of Covid, there should be tens of thousands of stories about the most underrepresented group there is:  People who did not die of Covid.

The media does not even acknowledge this massive group because it might inadvertently cause people to be less afraid.  They love reporting that we will die if we don’t do exactly what they tell us to do, but they hate it when we don’t oblige them by dying like we were supposed to.  Low death counts really frustrate the left.  The huge disparity between stories of people dying from Covid and those who have not died from Covid needs to be corrected.

Since the left has trouble reconciling their need to scare people with their purported concern with proportional representation in the media, I am going to help them out.  While I can name myriad people who have not died of Covid (considering all of us are in that demographic), I will stick to people many of us will recognize.  Fortunately, Covid is as undeadly to celebrities as it is to us average Joes, so there are plenty of examples.  Let’s get started.

Tom Hanks – The panic all started back in March of 2020 when legendary actor Tom Hanks announced that he had Covid.  News reports made people contemplate what life would be like without one of the most familiar faces in the world.

Update:  You might be wondering why the media would tell you about Tom Hanks’ impending death, yet didn’t even cover his funeral or people mourning at his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  What jerks, right?  Well, I’m happy to inform you that Tom Hanks did not die.  The media had gotten the fear they wanted from the story so it ended at the beginning.

Side note:  Many of you immediately think of Forrest Gump when you picture Tom Hanks, but I still think back to Bosom Buddies, when America still knew that men dressing as women was something to laugh at.  Hanks’ co-star from Bosom Buddies, Peter Scolari, actually did die this year, but did not have Covid, so it was barely mentioned in the press.  They were shocked to find out that even if you don’t get Covid it’s still possible to die.  In fact, the odds are right around 100%.

President Trump – In October of 2020, President Donald Trump announced that he had tested positive for Covid at the age of 74.  To the chagrin of Democrats, President Trump did not die.

Bob Barker – Yes.  Bob Barker is still alive!  I was as surprised as you are when I looked it up.

Me – I am not a celebrity but you are reading my article, so it counts.  Plus, I have been in the group of people who lived our lives fully and ignored the tyrannical rules.  The panicked wimps on social media have smugly been saying for two years that we will be wiped out by Darwinism, so I know it galls them that I am still alive.  Just smile at them and laugh.  It drives them even more crazy.

Rudy Gobert – The first NBA player who tested positive for the coronavirus was Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz.  You may remember that he mocked the severity of the virus by goofing around and touching all of the microphones at a press conference.  He later apologized, but as it turns out, he was right.  Gobert is still with us.

The cast of The Bachelor/Bachelorette from every single season – There are just so many people who have not died from Covid that it is easier to list them in groups of hundreds of people.  Between the two shows there have been 44 seasons of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, with right around 1,180 contestants, and while some have died, not a single one of them has succumbed to Covid.  I guess this is not the most dramatic disease ever.

The Los Angeles Dodgers – For the first time in 32 years, the Dodgers won the 2020 World Series.  Their victory was not without controversy, though.  During the 6th and deciding game of the series, third baseman Justin Turner was removed from the game because he had tested positive for Covid.  Though he was not sick, he was told that he could not be on the field with his team who he had worked so hard with for years to win a championship.  After the game, Turner came back onto the field to celebrate with teammates and take pictures with the trophy.  He even took off his mask for pictures.  This started a media firestorm.  Leftist sportswriters and commentators were swift to call for Turner’s head.  They openly questioned whether fines, suspensions, or other punishments should rain down on Turner and the Dodgers.  They claimed that he had put everyone on the field in grave danger with his irresponsible behavior.  Some even fretted that Turner had endangered the few thousand fans allowed in the stands at the game.  We waited with anticipation to find out which Dodgers would return to defend their title in 2021 and which ones would meet their doom.  A week went by.  Then another.  There was no word from the press on which Dodgers had died.  Eventually, spring training for the next season rolled around, and the Dodgers players took the field and played baseball as if they had nothing wrong with them.  Even Justin Turner himself was alive and hit 27 home runs after his death sentence.  If the sportswriters really thought the players were in danger, this survival miracle should have been a huge story.  Instead, there was silence, as if they knew from the beginning that it was a non-story.

All of the MLB, NFL, NBA, and NHL – The four major sports leagues in the United States bring Americans many hours of entertainment and joy.  They also bring billions and billions of dollars into the economy.  Between the MLB (1,026 on opening day rosters), NFL (1,696), NHL (999), and NBA (529), there are 4,250 players.  Some of you might be wondering how many of these players have not died with Covid and why is the press not reporting on it?  The answer is that none of these players have died with Covid and highlighting that fact might ease public fear.  Despite the 100% survival rate, these leagues are still requiring testing and canceling games due to Covid.  I guess they haven’t figured out the sabermetrics for Covid strategy yet.

The non-death count – I will wrap up by using a pretty staggering number.  We keep hearing a highly exaggerated death count of over 800,000, which even according to the CDC, counts mostly 80-year-olds with three or four other causes of death involved.  What needs to be reported is the non-death count, or how many Americans did not die of Covid to provide some perspective.  That number is approximately 334,031,568 at the time of this writing.  I say “at the time of this writing” because as you can see if you click the link, our population is actually growing.  That may surprise some of you, since you have been led to believe that Covid is decimating our population.  However, in fact there are more Americans now than in March of 2020.  So, the next time you hear the media complaining about groups being underrepresented in our culture and starting hashtag campaigns like #OscarsSoWhite, think about how the survival of over 334,000,000 people is being ignored by the press.  #AmericaSoPanicky
