“The world is getting really bad. I think the rapture will happen within the next 12 years.” I was dating a girl who made that prediction to me, and that was about 10 years ago. For those of you who are not familiar, the rapture is the term used to describe when the Lord takes believers out of the world before the seven-year tribulation period prophesied about in the Bible.
At the time she said that I was pretty skeptical for two reasons. First, the Bible is clear “that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night” (1 Thessalonians 5:2) and “…that day and hour no one knows.” (Mark 13:32) That guarantees that the only time we can rule out for the rapture is any specific time when somebody says it will happen. In her defense, though, she was not predicting a specific day and hour. She was just guessing a general time frame.
The other reason was that I looked back at the other times in history where God gave up on us turning it around and realized that He is very patient. Think about it. The first time he brought large-scale judgment down on people was the flood. He waited until Noah and his family were the only ones left worth saving in the entire world. That is patience! The other example is when God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. In that instance, He told Abraham that He was going to destroy those cities and Abraham negotiated with him. Abraham asked if God would destroy the city if there were 50 good people there. God said no. Then he lowered it to 45. God said no. Abraham kept haggling all the way down to 10 good people and God said He would spare the cities for the sake of 10. In the end, as we know, God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because 10 could not be found, and Lot and his daughters were the only ones who survived. Again, God is patient!
All this being said, I am starting to think that she might not be as far off as I assumed at the time. It is hard to deny that end-time prophesies are starting to line up so well that it’s hard to believe that anybody can doubt the Bible anymore. There are even groups who are trying to push for the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem, which we know will be there during the tribulation. With dominos falling like they are it would not surprise me if her 12-year guess was close. Then again, it could be 100 years away still. The only certainty is that it’s closer now than ever before, and we should be prepared.
This is what gave me the idea for a rapture will. I’ve thought about writing a normal will before but put it off because I’m still young, healthy, and extremely attractive. I also think it is a big decision who to leave my money to. I’m single and have no kids so at this point I do not have a responsibility to take care of anybody. I used to think about who would have the most fun with it. As shallow as that sounds, it still matters to me. I would not want it to be wasted on somebody who follows the lockdown rules and sits inside hiding. I want it to be enjoyed. On the other hand, I wouldn’t want to leave it all to someone who would blow through it all on frivolous stuff like caviar and spider monkeys. One spider monkey, fine, but definitely not plural. Ultimately, what I really want is to leave my money to people who will use it for the most important purpose there is, to bring people to God so that they end up in Heaven. This makes the obvious heirs to my inheritance have one necessary quality. They must be good Christians.
This works when deciding on my normal will, but a big problem arises when it comes to a rapture will. All of the other good Christians will have been whooshed away with me. I can’t leave it to my parents because they will also be gone. Any Christian friends will have also disappeared. It would be pointless to leave it to my church because any true believers there will be with me. Unfortunately, I do have family members who may not believe and will still be around, but I do not want to give my money to someone who will not use it to spread the truth about what is going on and how to be saved. It sounds like I may as well just burn the money, doesn’t it? Wrong! I figured out a way to at least make an educated guess as to who to leave my inheritance to.
To do this we have to look at what we do know about the seven-year tribulation period after the rapture. We know that although Christians will have been removed from the world and the antichrist will be ruling, many people will realize that they missed the boat and will turn to God. Further, Revelation 7:1-8 tells us that 144,000 people will be sealed as servants of God during that time; 12,000 from each of the twelve tribes of Israel. So, we know for a fact that 144,000 Jews will realize that Jesus is the Messiah and will become witnesses who bring others to Him during this time.
Now that we have this information to go on, I can narrow down who to set as my beneficiary. Since it has to be somebody who will be left behind, and I want the biggest probability that my inheritance is used to further the Kingdom of God, I will leave my money to a Jewish person who is both smart and preferably someone who has influence. My mind instantly went to my favorite radio personality and founder of Prager University, Dennis Prager, and another great mind and founder of The Daily Wire, Ben Shapiro.
I have to admit, this was supposed to be the end of the article. Then I noticed Revelation 14:4, which says of the 144,000, “These are the ones who were not defiled by women, for they are virgins.” That throws off my plan since both Prager and Shapiro have children. They will not be part of the “sealed” group mentioned in Revelation. Fortunately, this does not mean they will not be saved. Revelation 14:9-17 tells us that a “great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues,” will be saved during the tribulation.
Knowing all of this, here is what I have decided for my rapture will. If at any time I go missing, and so do many other Christians including my parents, my sister Amber, and some Christian public figures like Pastor Jack Hibbs, Vice President Mike Pence, and Tim Tebow, then my money should be split evenly between Dennis Prager and Ben Shapiro. Since I have no way of knowing who are virgins, I have to take a chance that Prager and Shapiro will be part of the “great multitude” of converts. I know that they are both wise men who study the Torah (the Old Testament to Christians) and I think that makes them a better bet than most. However, if you see Ben Shapiro at the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem with a spider monkey on each shoulder, you know I made an incorrect choice.
The first paragraph of this article is here for a very specific reason. To promote the article on social media I had to make sure that there was no political speech in the first couple of lines so that it wouldn’t be censored. The original started here:
Democrats now control the White House and both chambers of Congress. They are calling for unity, but what they mean by that is, “Now everybody needs to agree with us.” That is not going to happen. I am not saying that in an obstinate way. I’m just being realistic and honest. People disagree and that is alright. Republicans were in charge for the last four years and many people disagreed with them, and I expected that as well because that is how life works.
This leads me to my one request to Democrats. Now that you’re in charge please give us the same courtesy that we gave to you when we were. That courtesy is this: When people disagree with you, don’t force them to do what you want.
This may surprise some of you after being told by the media for four years that President Trump was a fascist dictator, but I cannot think of anything that he forced us to do during his term. If you disagreed with President Trump and the Republicans, they did not make you do anything against your will. Republicans let people agree to disagree.
If, for example, you disagreed with the tax cuts that were passed, Republicans did not force you to go along with it. They implemented no penalties for people who wanted to keep paying the higher tax rates voluntarily. Yes, you can do that. Surprisingly, wealthy Democrats who complain that rich people don’t pay their fair share do not opt to pay more themselves when given that choice. Alright, maybe not so surprisingly.
Ultimately, this is the main thing that Republicans want: to be left alone. We want to control our own lives and let others control theirs. Another example; we may understand that homosexuality is immoral, but we do not block people from the practice. In fact, the Trump administration started a global effort to end the criminalization of homosexuality. (In contrast, Democrats kowtow to countries like Iran who put homosexuals to death.) Republicans also disagree with divisive groups like Antifa and Black Lives Matter, yet do not want them prevented from speaking or kicked off of social media. Another Republican belief is that God is central to the American way of life and necessary for our success, but we do not want to require church attendance. In other words, Republicans would like everybody to act in particular ways but think that people should be free to choose for themselves.
This approach is not a new one. It is actually one of the principles that our country was established on. Our Founding Fathers were wise men who understood that people would not always agree as to what should be done. They also knew that throughout history, when the powerful forced those who disagreed with them to conform to their will it sowed contempt, division and conflict. Their solution was liberty. If one group wants to do “A” and another group wants to do “B,” the answer is not to have the group in power force the other group to do what they command. Instead, the first group can do “A” and the second group can do “B.” They can try to use persuasion to win the other side over but they should not use coercion.
If Joe Biden really wants unity this is what he should do. Refrain from taking away our liberty. Allow people to have free will and do what they think is best for themselves. He can disagree with our choices but he should not overrule them. Here are ten great suggestions that the Democrats can do to respect the liberty of Americans:
- If you decide to raise taxes, make it optional to pay the old rate like the Republicans did for you.
- If you want people to wear masks, make it optional like the Republicans did.
- Let scared restaurant owners who want to shut down do so, and let the ones who want to remain open choose to do that. If patrons want to show up they can but if they are afraid they should also be free to stay home.
- Let churches decide whether to remain open or close down. If congregants do not want to attend they should not be forced to, but those who do should be allowed in.
- President Trump stopped enforcement of the Johnson Amendment, which threatens to take away tax-exempt status from churches if the pastor endorses a political candidate. Continue with that policy and allow pastors to decide for themselves what to say from the pulpit without threat of retaliation from the government.
- If somebody wants health insurance that covers pregnancy and drug rehabilitation they should be allowed to purchase it. If another person wants less expensive insurance that does not cover those things they should be allowed to choose that. If someone else prefers to pay out of pocket for medical care instead of buying insurance they should be able to do that.
- Do not force law abiding citizens to buy guns. Likewise, do not prohibit them from buying guns.
- If someone wants to do a job for $8 per hour, do not prohibit them from doing so and force them out of a job. Let people decide for themselves what wage to accept.
- Do not force people who are against murdering babies to pay for the murder of babies. Do not use taxpayer money for Planned Parenthood.
- Refrain from banning or restricting us from using certain products like incandescent light bulbs, straws, grocery bags, soda, and shower heads with good water pressure.
These are all things that Democrats have tried to dictate in the past. If they truly want unity this list would be a solid first step. Instead of using tyrannical power to control those of us who disagree with them, try going back to our founding vision of liberty. It’s the least they can do after Republicans did it for them the last four years.
As President Trump leaves the White House I have been contemplating his similarities with another great leader who challenged the status quo and “drained the swamp.” The biblical king, Josiah, was the last good king of Israel’s southern kingdom of Judah before they were defeated by the Babylonians and taken into captivity.
Both the United States and Judah had gone downhill quite a ways after some downright bad leaders who “did evil in the sight of the Lord.” Don’t get me wrong, both nations also had some good leaders, except that they failed to roll back all of the evil policies of the bad rulers. When reading through the books of Kings and Chronicles you begin to notice a pattern arise where the good kings usually had one fatal flaw mentioned. It seemed to always be described like it was here with King Jotham:
And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord; he did according to all that his father Uzziah had done. However the high places were not removed; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places. – 2 Kings 15:34-35
These high places were generally set up in Israel by the bad kings and were used for pagan worship and idolatry. Even the few kings who “did what was right in the sight of the Lord” failed to remove the high places, with two exceptions: King Hezekiah and his great-grandson King Josiah.
It made me wonder why the other good kings allowed the high places even though it was obviously wrong. Then it struck me. It’s for the same reason that our good presidents have not reversed the immoral policies of our bad presidents. They knew that many people would not like it and they lacked the political courage to follow through. There was probably a lot of political pressure by the people who worshipped and sacrificed at the high places, and even the good kings bowed to that pressure.
Kings Hezekiah and Josiah did not. They both had the backbone to stand up for what was right and removed the high places from the land. In the United States, conservatives have been frustrated because even when we elect good leaders they have lacked the courage to do what is right. Like Hezekiah and Josiah, President Trump has not. Here are some of his landmark accomplishments:
- The first wicked king of Judah was Solomon’s son Reheboam. When he became king the people came to him and said, “Your father made our yoke heavy; now therefore, lighten the burdensome service of your father and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you.” (1 Kings 12:4) In other words, regulations. The government was forcing them to do too much and interfering with their lives. Reheboam took the bad advice of his friends and responded, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scourges!” (1 Kings 12:14) Our bad presidents have greatly increased the bone crushing regulatory burden on the people. Our good presidents, like George W. Bush and his father, said they were for smaller government but did not actually lessen regulations. President Trump did. He made a guideline that for every new regulation, two had to be removed. This led to a booming economy and record low unemployment.
- Both good and bad presidents have said that we should recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move our embassy there. None of them had the guts to actually do it. President Trump did.
- Speaking of Israel, President Obama greatly damaged our relationship with God’s chosen people and our greatest ally. He treated Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with contempt. His administration chastised Israel for defending themselves. He backstabbed them and allowed them to be attacked in the United Nations. Most notably, he put Israel in grave danger by appeasing Iran and making a deal to remove sanctions against them and give them billions of dollars without even forcing them to end their nuclear program. President Trump was the most pro-Israel president of my lifetime and maybe ever. He defended Israel in the United Nations, acknowledged their sovereignty over the Golan Heights, and ended the appeasement of Iran by pulling out of the dangerous Iran Nuclear Deal. He was even able to broker peace deals between Israel and Bahrain, Sudan, and the United Arab Emirates.
- About ten years ago my health insurance started to rise precipitously in price. President Obama had forced through the government monstrosity now known as Obamacare, which also took away our freedom with regards to our healthcare decisions. President Trump eliminated the individual mandate, taking the teeth out of Obamacare and giving individuals back more control of their healthcare.
- After years of weak defense of our nation’s borders, President Trump was able to get over 400 miles of wall built.
- There is one rule that is repeated in each of the first five books of the Bible; that murderers should be put to death. The federal government has failed in this responsibility, as only 3 murderers had been executed between 1963 and 2020. President Trump has enforced the death penalty for murderers again, with 13 federal executions being carried out in the last year.
- Good presidents and candidates have been lied about and vilified by our biased and corrupt media for decades, frustrating millions of Americans because previous presidents just took the abuse. President Trump fought back and constantly called out the media for their unfairness and propaganda.
- One of the great reforms of King Josiah is found in 2 Kings 23:10. “And he defiled Topheth, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or daughter pass through the fire to Molech.” To make your child pass through the fire meant to sacrifice them to the Moabite god Molech. This evil practice was not only allowed to happen in Israel by the wicked kings, but kings Ahaz and Manasseh actually sacrificed their own sons. The United States has a similar practice that is protected by the wicked presidents: abortion. Unfortunately, even our good presidents have been inept at curtailing this evil act. President Trump has stepped up to the plate and defended babies. He was the first president to attend the March for Life. He has found a way to block funding for Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the country. Most importantly, he has appointed three pro-life Supreme Court Justices.
You may be wondering why I chose Josiah to compare President Trump to instead of Hezekiah since they both stood up against the status quo and removed the high places, and I have two reasons. First, Hezekiah came earlier and that leads me to compare him to another great president who upset the apple cart, President Reagan. Second, Josiah was only 8 years old when he became king, and President Trump does tend to speak without much tact like a kid might. It is disappointing that too many people couldn’t get past that lack of tact, because like King Josiah, he may be the last great president we ever have. Thank you, President Trump, for making us great again.
And there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which it may be said, "See, this is new"? It has already been in ancient times before us. - Ecclesiastes 1:9-10
One of the great things about the Bible is that it gives us guidance for the future by showing us the past. As we begin 2021 we find ourselves at a crossroads as Americans. Both of the possible paths we can take have been tried before so we know what fate will await us depending on which we choose.
The first option is to choose a path that was taken by ancient Israel in the Old Testament. Israel started as a great nation given prominence by God under the leadership of Kings David and Solomon. They then fell into idolatry and wickedness, were split in two, and throughout their history were rebuked and given warnings by God through His prophets such as this one by Jeremiah:
‘Return, backsliding Israel,’ says the Lord; I will not cause My anger to fall on you. For I am merciful,’ says the Lord; ‘I will not remain angry forever. Only acknowledge your iniquity, That you have transgressed against the Lord your God, And have scattered your charms To alien deities under every green tree, And you have not obeyed My voice,’ says the Lord. – Jer. 3:12-13
The Israelites did not heed the warnings of the prophets and continued to rebel against God. The consequences were harsh. God removed his hand of protection from them and allowed the Babylonians to conquer the nation, destroy the temple in Jerusalem, and carry the people off into captivity.
The second option is from another place talked about in the Old Testament, Nineveh. You may recognize Nineveh because it is known mostly from the famous Bible story that we heard as children where Jonah is swallowed by a whale. Many of you probably do not remember the rest of the story. Here is a refresher. Jonah was called upon by the Lord to, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before me.” (Jonah 1:2) Instead, Jonah decided to board a ship heading the other direction. God sent a storm. Jonah realized that the storm was because of him so he told the sailors to throw him overboard, and God sent a great fish to swallow him. Jonah prayed and God had the fish vomit him onto the shore. Jonah finally went to Nineveh and warned the city that they would be overthrown in forty days. Sounds familiar, right? Those stories almost always ended with the people rejecting the prophet’s warning and God destroying the city, but the story of Nineveh ends differently. The people of Nineveh believed God and repented. Jonah 3:10 explains, “Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it.”
As you can see, God is merciful. Now I am going to put on my prophet hat and shout a warning to the United States. Thus saith the Lord, our country is heading towards destruction. You may think I am going to say that our country’s problems are due to bad political decisions giving Democrats too much power, and that is certainly true, but it is ultimately only a symptom of our situation and not the root cause. The real reason for all of our troubles is the same as it was in the Old Testament; because we have turned from God as a nation. Electing a great President like Donald Trump who enacts the policies that God wants in place is fantastic, but by itself that is only a temporary speed bump to slow down the decline of the United States. Winning an election is only a short term solution, as we now see. The only way to really preserve America is for us to repent and turn back to God.
We need a religious revival. That is our one chance to avoid national destruction. If we argue about political issues without having the same values in the first place, our side will struggle to win people over. We have to first convince people that they need to get closer to God and embrace the values He imparts to us through the Bible. Once that happens the nation will heal and thrive. Think about it. If an overwhelming majority of Americans turned to God and biblical values we would always elect pro-life candidates who value religious freedom, individual liberty, and support for Israel among other things.
Unfortunately, for now we are facing judgment from God. He didn’t even have to do anything supernatural to punish us. He is letting us rain down judgment on ourselves by giving Democrats power. Joe Biden is our punishment. He will likely cause more suffering than a plague of frogs ever could. He has already promised to eliminate friendliness and smiles by mandating we cover our faces like we were under Sharia law. He will almost certainly add crippling regulations to our economy leading to financial hardship for millions, especially small business owners. In Israel God used attacks by foreign adversaries to judge his people and I fear that Joe Biden’s probable return to policies of appeasement toward terrorist nations like Iran will make it likely that they will achieve nuclear capabilities in the near future. This could be a very dark time in our country.
We have a choice though. As God says in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” As you can see, we cannot avoid punishment without doing a couple of things. First, humble ourselves and pray. Second, we have to turn from our wicked ways. That entails a lot of things.
Usually when God spoke about wicked places in the past there were a few main areas that needed work. One was violence and the spilling of blood. That means we need to end the rioting and lawlessness that has gone on for a while now in our streets. We also need to support our police who are trying to clean up the crime in our country. It also means that we need to end the evil practice of abortion. How can we expect to continue being blessed by God when over 800,000 babies are murdered every year?
Another major area of disobedience was sexual immorality. That does not just mean the obvious offenses. Yes, homosexuality is a sin that has become acceptable, and even cool in today’s culture. This new trend of choosing your gender is also wrong. As the line from the Arnold Schwarzenegger film Kindergarten Cop says, “Boys have a penis, girls have a vagina.” However, sexual immorality also includes far more common things like sex outside of marriage. In fact, 59% of Americans have cohabitated with a partner and 65% think that cohabitation is a good idea. All of these things need to become unacceptable again.
There are many other things that are mentioned in the Bible like idolatry (putting other things ahead of God), stealing, dishonesty in business, and slander. Obviously, in a country as big as ours we cannot completely eliminate these sins, but we can certainly change our outlook towards them and greatly reduce the behaviors. Remember, God is merciful. We can choose the path that Nineveh chose and heed my warning. We cannot continue down the path we are on. Repent and turn to God!
Last week the Cleveland Indians decided to change their name. Since it was announced, the far left sports media has been heaping praise on the organization for being so forward thinking and proactive. My initial reaction was annoyance and disappointment, but then I thought, “I should really look at it from their perspective.” No, I don’t mean from the perspective of Indians, because as even Washington Post polling from just a few years ago shows, most Native Americans were not offended by the Washington Redskins football team name, much less the Indians. I mean from the perspective of a leftist.
Think about it. A great sports team name is tough, powerful, and formidable. There are Panthers, Giants, Vikings, Pirates, Diamondbacks, Braves, Titans, Lions and Tigers and Bears. Oh my! Some might say that the nickname for the team closest to me, the Angels, sounds pretty harmless, but as we know from A Charlie Brown Christmas, when an angel appeared to the shepherds to announce the birth of our Savior they were “sore afraid.” An angel is probably very intimidating. If you are not on the left you might think Indians are also tough, but remember, we are putting ourselves in the shoes of a leftist. The left doesn’t see Indians as powerful. They see them as whiny, overly sensitive, easily offended wussies. Who would want their home team represented as that? You might as well call them the Cleveland Flower Girls. It makes perfect sense that you would not want your team to have such a pathetic, weak name.
About now some of you are shocked. “I can’t believe he just said Indians are whiny, overly sensitive, easily offended wussies! That is racist!” Except I don’t think that. I think Indians is a great team name. I know that the team was actually nicknamed for Louis Sockalexis, the first Native American player in Major League Baseball. I think that Native Americans can be tough and formidable. It is the left that thinks Indians are fragile wimps that need protection from being seen as anything other than victims. Apparently even leftists who want to give out trophies to everybody are too competitive to name their team after people they consider helpless victims.
I must admit, when looking at this through the eyes of a leftist I caught myself a couple of times using logic instead. One of the first things that popped into my head was Abbott explaining to Costello that there’s only one Feller on the Cleveland Indians. It was very hard for me to put aside my assumption that Abbott and Costello were trying to do a hilarious bit about legendary Indians pitcher Bob Feller, and instead think that they were trying to make Native Americans cry. Then I thought about Willie Mays Hayes, Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn, and Harry Doyle chiming “juuuuust a bit outside” in the classic baseball comedy about the Indians, Major League, and realized that a leftist cannot in good conscience watch that because the film caused irreparable damage to the lives of our indigenous population. Please don’t ask me what damage it caused because I’m new to thinking like a leftist and I have no idea. I think I’m supposed to avoid your question by calling you a racist for even asking it.
The name change actually does make logical sense if you think so little of Indians. People on the left will deny that this is what they are saying about Native Americans when they object to using the name Indians, but they can’t have it both ways. Don’t let them fool you. That is what they are saying. If they didn’t think indigenous people are overly sensitive wimps who would be offended by hearing a sportscaster say that the Indians beat the Tigers 8-3, then why the push to change the name? The only other option is that leftists are delusional enough to think that the sportscaster actually did mean to attack Indians by including the team in his report. If that is the case it seems like the least successful offense against Indians since the Little Bighorn.
In the iconic television series Star Trek, Captain Kirk, Spock, and the rest of the Enterprise crew would travel to new planets, beam down to the surface, and learn about their societies. Spock was from the planet Vulcan, and most of us know the Vulcan greeting that he often used, “Live long and prosper.” We as Americans should consider what saying space visitors would associate with us if they beamed down to the United States today. Our national motto is technically “In God We Trust,” but unfortunately there is another statement that seems far more common in our country today. “I am offended.”
The list of things that people in America find offensive is endless. I don’t even think our alien visitors would enjoy being here because of the eggshells we have to walk on to avoid public shaming or worse. Even using the word “alien” is now considered offensive by some. This constant state of feeling offended not only makes that person unbearable to be around, but it makes them less happy. Imagine how much joy it would take out of life if you went to a comedy show and instead of finding the jokes funny you found them offensive.
I have good news for you, though. There is a solution to being offended all the time. Simply choose not to be offended. Yes, you heard me right. Being offended is a choice. I have even come up with a saying to help me decide whether or not I should feel offended. Don’t be offended unless offense is intended.
Notice I did not say that you should never be offended. There are certainly times when you should be. If somebody purposely impugns your character, their intent was to offend you. If somebody calls you a loser then you should take offense. My little proverb is meant to keep you from wasting your time, energy, and likeability on complaining about jokes, harmless comments, or even things that you disagree about. People should be able to disagree with each other and not feel offended.
The problem today is that people go around looking for things to find offensive. There are women who feel offended if a man opens a door for her. There are people who are offended by the Mark Twain classic Huckleberry Finn. There are even people who are offended by a new television show on ABC about girls getting kidnapped on a highwaybecause the girls who get kidnapped are not Indians. Using my rule none of those examples should be offensive because an offense was not intended.
There is now a term for these types of offenses. They call them microaggressions. The psychologist who popularized the term, Dr. Derald Wing Sue, even explained in a video that “Microaggressions occur because they are outside the level of conscious awareness of the perpetrator.” That means that not only does the perpetrator not intend to offend you, but that you would have to explain to them why you’re offended. If you often find yourself having to explain why you are offended that probably means your pain is self-inflicted.
Let’s put my advice into practice and try some examples to test if we should be offended by them.
Example #1: Somebody says “Merry Christmas” to you. You are not a Christian.
Response: Do not be offended. Their intention was to be nice.
Example #2: Somebody asks you for help on a math problem. You are Asian.
Response: Do not be offended. Maybe they weren’t thinking about your race. Maybe they were. It doesn’t matter. The intent was to get a math problem right.
Example #3: Your friend Fred sits next to you at a blackjack table. The dealer calls him “sir” without learning his gender identity first.
Response: Do not be offended. The intent was to politely address him. Oops. I just said “him” without realizing it.
Example #4: Somebody says that “All lives matter.”
Response: Do not be offended. I doubt that their intention was to say that anybody’s life doesn’t matter. Thus the word all.
Example #5: Somebody says that you can be put into a basket of deplorables.
Response: You can be offended because calling somebody deplorable is certainly intended to impugn their character.
Now you have a guideline to go by, so the next time you see a George Washington statue, you should be able to fight the urge to cry and tear it down. You know that the intent of the statue was not to brag that he owned slaves. Choose not to be offended. Hopefully, this advice will help the United States become a more pleasant place for our visitors from space. If instead, you choose to remain constantly offended, Mr. Spock will probably find you highly illogical.
“I think I’m going to be sick,” I said to my friend as we sat down to eat. It was the early 2000’s and I was part of the first generation of online daters. Back then there was no Tinder or Bumble. We used AOL and talked to girls through instant messages. I looked over at the girl behind the counter. Her name tag matched the girl to whom I had been talking. Her voice matched what I had heard on the phone, but it wasn’t the same girl. I had seen a picture of her. She was a thin brunette with large breasts and a seductive look on her face. The girl who had given us our food was about 5 feet tall and had to be over 200 pounds. I didn’t want to accept it, but I knew the truth. The girl had pretended to be somebody she was not. This phenomenon has become so common that there is even a word for it now – catfishing. I learned an important lesson that day. You have no idea that a person is who they claim to be until you verify it.
I once again have that sick feeling and this time it is far more important. President Trump finished election night with massive leads in almost all of the swing states. Unfortunately, many states allow votes to be counted that we have less verification of who they are coming from than I had with that girl. These mail-in ballots could have been sent in by anybody. In fact, I pick up the mail from the mailbox at my apartment, so I easily could have taken my roommate’s ballot, filled it out, and sent it in to be counted. I looked at the ballot. There is no verification process that would have prevented me from doing that. Most states have made catfishing the ballot box easier than catfishing a naïve, girl-crazed boy.
We have to fix our voting system so that we know who we are dealing with. I got better at it when it came to online dating, so we can use some of the same concepts. Generally, some sort of visual proof is necessary to figure out if a person is who they say they are. They didn’t have reverse web searches back then, and even now those do not always find the picture you’re looking for. Some guys would just assume that if a girl sent pictures that were too attractive she was fake, but that is not always the case, and you don’t want to miss out on a girl who really is the hot girl in the pictures. I’m looking at you, Minnesota Megan.
The first verification method I experimented with was to get multiple pictures instead of trusting just one. It has the benefit of preventing a girl (or maybe even a guy) from grabbing any old photo off the internet and saying it is them. It is an improvement, but you can find multiple pictures of the same girl all over the web, so it is also an easily beatable system. What you have to do is ask the person to send you real-time, spontaneously posed pictures. For example, you would tell the girl to send you a picture of her posing with her pinky to her mouth like Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers movies. Then tell her to send a picture of her balancing a book on her head. Generally, if she can send you those pictures immediately, she is really the girl photographed.
We can use that method to verify voters, but it poses many logistical problems. We need to trust the people doing the verification, so each voting precinct would have to have people supporting both candidates there for the verification process. It would be a tedious and lengthy undertaking, as every single mail-in voter would need to be contacted, one at a time, to confirm their identity matches the name on the ballot, pose for the random pictures and text or email them in, and confirm that the vote on the ballot is the correct vote that they sent in. As you can see, the randomly posed picture solution would be very difficult to pull off without it taking years.
Fortunately, I eventually figured out the one foolproof way to know that you are speaking to the person in the pictures. The only way to be sure is to physically meet the girl in person and match the picture to the actual human being. I know it’s a crazy concept, but I haven’t looked directly at a girl and been fooled into thinking she was someone else since Hayley Mills. How can we put this approach into practice in our elections? Easy. All we have to do is require people to vote in person on Election Day so that we can match them to the photo identification that they provide.
A very smart lawyer that I know basically told me that because Democrats made fraudulent votes nearly impossible to prove, those votes are legal and we shouldn’t say that they are fraudulent. Fine. Let’s just say that the Democrats are catfishing us. He also implied that the only thing we can do is try to get the Democrats who are in power to change the fraudulent system that got them into power in the first place. Good luck with that. I say we need to fight and fight now. If we don’t we may end up in a four-year relationship with Joe Biden, which would certainly be the end of our love affair with liberty.
This story starts a couple of years back when my mother started getting into family genealogy. She mapped out what we already knew, but then had a few family members spit into a tube to send to 23andMe and Ancestry.com to find out more information. We expected most of the interesting stuff to come from my mom’s side. How involved was the Italian part of our family in the mob way back when? Were we even Italian, or were we more Albanian as one of the tests showed? Was my aunt really the mailman’s daughter as they joked with my grandparents?
Interestingly enough, the most surprising thing we found out was on my dad’s side. The test came back and said that he is half Jewish. We had no idea that we had any Jewish in our DNA at all, much less 50%. If you know my dad, his reaction was exactly as you would expect. He took me to the Katella Deli and ate corned beef, latkes, matzah ball soup, babka, gefilte fish, knishes, challah bread, and blintzes. I love my dad.
Fast forward to Christmas, 2019. I wanted to get my dad something imaginative that he wouldn’t expect and would also give him a laugh. Then an idea hit me. I looked online for a “Make America Great Again” yarmulke. It was perfect! I found one on Etsy, a website where people can make crafty products and set up their own “shop” to sell their wares on. The gift was a hit.
Fast forward again, this time to August 27 of this year. In my email I find a message from the guy who I bought the yarmulke from. It began like this:
Dear Valued Customer,
Please forgive us for sending you this unexpected email, you are receiving this because you purchased a “Trump Make America Great” Kippah or Yarmulke from our Etsy store during the past two years. First, I want to thank you for the purchase, you should know that this store was a labor of love to help my kids pay for their Bar and Bat Mitzvah’s, my family is ever grateful to you for being part of that.
We really need you to know the recent sad events that have transpired at our Etsy shop, Etsy who sides in many leftist causes came under pressure from the social media mob and have succumbed and permanently suspended our shop where we sold these MAGA kippahs. It appears a customer showed off their wares on TicTok and got a tsunami of leftist outrage. We were used to getting nasty messages on Etsy but this time Etsy sided with this outrage mob and has shut us down.
My jaw dropped. It isn’t surprising that leftist bullies would go on the attack. Democrats do not tolerate disagreement. The astonishing part was that Etsy had let them get their way and actually closed down this man’s shop. I responded to the email and asked if I could speak to him about what happened and he agreed.
We spoke on the phone last week and he asked that I don’t use his name out of concern for his kids. He told me that his son is a supporter of the president and has been harassed at school and has even been called out on what was described as a “mean girls” kind of webpage meant to “cancel” people. For that reason I will call him Daniel in this article.
Daniel is an interesting man with some insightful perspective on how the left is using Marxist tactics to silence anybody who disagrees with them. You see, Daniel is a Russian Jew who fled here in 1979 at the age of 9. He has seen the left in action in the Soviet Union and is alarmed at the similarities he sees with the Democrats in the United States today. He fears that Democrat policies and tactics will lead to the communism that his family fled from in the Soviet Union. He sees how the left is promoting division and pitting everybody against each other by pushing a victim mentality on people; rich vs. poor, black vs. white, gay vs. straight, male vs. female. He sees the left trying to silence people for having different opinions.
Daniel mentioned another tactic that is being used here in the United States and compared it to something I had never heard of before and had to look into, Josef Stalin’s “Doctor’s Plot.” In it, Stalin falsely accused Jewish doctors of plotting to kill Soviet leaders. Jews were denounced as poisoners and Daniel’s grandmother, who was a doctor with many patients, was reduced to seeing just a handful of patients in secret. Daniel sees Democrats doing the same thing by spreading horrible propaganda against people and vilifying them for political purposes. Just look at the slander the left has perpetrated against the police in our country and you can see the obvious comparison.
I told Daniel that it mystifies me that some Jews in America could ever vote for Democrats after seeing the rising antisemitism in that party. Between Representative Ilhan Omar’s openly anti-Semitic comments, Democrat’s support of the Iran Nuclear Deal that freed up $150 billion for a country that shouts “Death to Israel,” Democrats walking out on a speech by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Obama turning his back on Israel in the United Nations, some Democrats supporting the “BDS” movement, and the Democratic Convention booing an amendment to their platform that mentioned God and supported recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, it seems unfathomable that any Jew could support Democrats. Daniel told me that many secular Jews have forgotten their roots. He said that “Democrats have been letting Jews down for 80 years.”
I asked Daniel what he thinks us as Americans can do. He said that we need to focus on bringing the culture back. He said, “The left has won the culture war.” When we have major commercial websites shutting down shops for selling items that show support for our president, I fear he is right. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what kind of censorship and persecution we can expect if Democrats win next week.
Daniel had sold over 7,000 Trump yarmulkes before his shop was shut down. Whenever he tried to contact Etsy they told him that his complaint would be sent up the ladder but he never got anywhere with them. I reached out to Etsy and have not received a response. I also looked on Etsy at what other yarmulkes are allowed to be sold and found many, including “Biden/Harris” and “Black Lives Matter” versions.
Daniel has moved his business over to Ebay, and although he does not want me to confirm his identity, if you would like to support him just search on Ebay for “Trump kippahs” and many of the results will be from his shop. Just pick your favorite design and it is likely coming from him.
There should be an area of agreement between all reasonable people in the United States. For our country to survive we must be able to trust the integrity of our elections. If elected officials are abusing their power like they are in places like California right now, we need to have the ability to vote those people out of office or else there is no check against tyranny. When dishonest politicians are able to steal elections, they will.
Both Democrats and Republicans say that they want honest and fair elections. Both parties have complained about the integrity of our recent and upcoming elections. Unfortunately, they have different ideas about what is taking away the trust in our elections. We heard a lot from Democrats about Russian interference in the 2016 election. In fact, they have spent much of the last 4 years investigating it over and over again. Many of you may wonder how they allege that the Russians changed the outcome in 2016. Did they somehow hack our voting systems and change the vote counts? Did they fly in Russians to swing states where they cast illegal votes? No. The alleged Russian interference is that they said mean things about Hillary Clinton on Facebook. While that may be frustrating to Hillary fans, it does not actually make it easier for anybody to cast fraudulent votes. Plus, how many of you would change your vote because some stranger said something mean on Facebook?
Republicans ask a different question about voting that we should all agree is important. Do we know who is casting the votes in our elections and that no shenanigans are happening with those votes? If we don’t it opens the door to voter fraud, stolen elections, and the end of our government of the people, by the people, and for the people. Do not fall for the media line that very few people get convicted of voter fraud so nobody does it. That’s like saying a Las Vegas club that doesn’t check ID’s has no underage people inside because no underage people got caught.
How can we be more confident about who is voting and that they are correctly counted? The only way to be sure is to require in person voting, on Election Day, with matching photo ID to verify that the person is who they say they are. It’s easy and it’s common sense. Unfortunately, not everybody wants to have honest elections.
Each state sets up their own election laws, so some are far more reliable than others. Some are unwisely pushing for mail-in voting, with nobody there to verify that the person who filled out the ballot is the actual person that the ballot belongs to, and with no guarantee that the ballot will be delivered or counted. In fact, there is already an investigation into military mail-in ballots that were apparently opened and thrown into the garbage in Pennsylvania. The only time a mail-in ballot should be accepted is for overseas military personnel. All 50 states now allow some form of mail-in voting, so nobody gets a perfect score on preventing voter fraud, but some states at least have a few precautions set up.
Unfortunately, other states not only lack rules to prevent election shenanigans, but they come up with ideas to make cheating so easy that the Houston Astros wish they had thought of it. “Ballot harvesting” is the shady practice of allowing a third party to collect ballots and deliver them to be counted. This has all of the negatives of mail-in voting with the added problem of having partisan people targeting which ballots to bring in. In California this practice caused congressional districts that had always voted one way to flip. In many of the cases the returns had one candidate ahead at the end of election night only to swing wildly to the other side the next day. Whenever the results from election night change like that it raises major red flags as to the integrity of those votes.
It’s pretty unbelievable, but some states do not even require you to show identification when you go to vote. That means we have no idea who is casting votes in those states. Here in California, if I walked into a polling place and said my name is Fred Johnson, then I’m Fred Johnson. Apparently in Pennsylvania their Secretary of State said that they would not even throw out a ballot if the signature doesn’t match.
What we need is a report card to know which states have safe enough elections to trust the outcome. Below you will find it, with a grade based on how many precautions are set up to make sure that each vote has been properly cast by the correct, legal voter.
